The Orientation

Building skills, preparing for life in Australia

Unlike pure online matching services we believe that only a well-prepared Au Pair can be an efficient carer for your child.

Upon arrival in Sydney all Au Pairs are required to complete a First Aid Course as well attend an orientation with AIFS. The Orientation also offers the Au Pairs the opportunity to get to know other AIFS Au Pairs and participants of other AIFS programs.

The goals of the orientation program are to:

  • provide an opportunity for each participant to acclimate to Australia in a supportive environment before joining their Host Family
  • reinforce information about program regulations and policies
  • provide an opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills that will help your Au Pair to adjust to Australian culture and lifestyles
  • provide an opportunity to acquire basic knowledge and skills about child development and behaviour that will help the Au Pair to safely and effectively care for the child(ren) in your family
  • teach Au Pairs basic first aid knowledge.

In addition, the program includes:

  • a discussion of adaptation to different cultures
  • an explanation of Host Family expectations
  • discussion of childcare practices in Australia.

This program provides the foundation upon which your training with your Au Pair can begin.
